Instagram is working on a customizable AI-Powered Chatbot – This is how it works

Instagram is seen working on an AI-powered chatbot where users can customize its personality as per their wishes and create a personalized AI chatbot for themselves.

The advent of generative-AI had improvised voice assistants in a way that feels like you are actually talking with a person of expert-level knowledge, an assistant for you. Further, it got upgraded to be your conversational friend too, letting people to chat, and to an extent, indulge in romantic relationships with it.

Meta is developing an AI-powered chatbot for Instagram where people can personalize the character of the AI as they like.

Instagram’s AI Chatbot

The AI chatbot, according to the leaks, can answer questions, give advice to users or help users write messages. Users will be able to choose between “30 AI personalities and find which one you like the most.” Say for example, user could tailor the AI to be their fashion advisor for the clothes to wear.

Meta hasn’t announced any formal plans for such a feature, but chatbots would fit past statements about the company’s AI ambitions. In February, CEO Mark Zuckerberg said Meta was “developing AI personas that can help people in a variety of ways” and that the company was exploring how to make such bots accessible through text conversations “like chat in WhatsApp and Messenger.”

The chatbot is powered by the firm’s Meta AI.

Meta AI

Meta AI is the firm’s native AI model for a new assistant across its platforms, including WhatsApp and Messenger. Powered by Llama 2, the large language model of Meta, Meta AI has access to real-time information from Bing, through its search partnership with the same and also offers a tool for image creation.

This is how it works. Imagine you and your friends are in a group chat discussing which trailhead to try in Santa Cruz. Meta AI surfaces options directly in the chat, so you can decide as a group which location to explore. What if after the hike you want a creative way to commemorate the day? Meta AI can help. Type “@MetaAI /imagine” followed by a descriptive text prompt like “create a button badge with a hiker and redwood trees,” and it will create a digital merit badge in the chat with your friends.

Rise in AI Chatbots

AI became as conversational as human in recent days, which makes it demanding wherever human interaction is needed for firms. Many websites had deployed AI as its virtual assistant to interact with viewers and now social media takes a shot. Apps like Snapchat launched its own “My AI” chatbot, which is powered by ChatGPT.

Moreover, people started looking for AI chatbot to pacify their relationship or companion cravings. A report shows that Google searches for “AI girlfriend” increases by a whopping 2400% in recent times.

However, firms haven’t reached a spot, where these bots are only engaging and fun to talk and not stepping into controversial or offensive interactions. For instance, Snapchat’s “My AI” indulged in providing advices or tips on how to cover up the smell of alcohol and weed and set the mood for sex.

Not everyone is fond of AI as a friend. But everyone will used to be. As people started visiting ChatGPT or Bard for even the dumbest question they have, they might find it useful when AI can clear their doubts in Instagram or WhatsApp chat itself, besides having chit-chats.

Before people get crowded in these chatbots, firms should ensure of addressing the extent to which AI can interact or provide advice to people, to put an end for exploitation of the technology.
