World’s top 10 richest people in 2024 list was recently shared by Forbes and they altogether have a net worth of $1.467 trillion, surpassing the GDP of nearly 180 countries.

Amidst the leaders and entrepreneurs who had achieved a fortune life and status, there are this set of people making impossible things to be possible, either in business or in accumulation of wealth. The prominent figures including Elon Musk, Bernard Arnault, Jeff Bezos and so on, not just ascended to the highest echelons of success, but sustained in that over a period of years. The top ten wealthiest people added $465.6 billion to their net worth in 2023 and the biggest winner here is Elon Musk again. Elon Musk who was worth $180 billion in January 2, 2023, is now worth a whopping $251 billion (₹20.88 Lakh Crores), as per Forbes. This indicates that the rich are getting richer, and the growing disparity between the rich and poor is a concern still.

#1 Elon Musk – Tesla, SpaceX

Elon Musk grabs the title of world’s richest person in 2024, pushing Bernard Arnault to second. The CEO of two prominent companies – Tesla and SpaceX in automobile industry and space exploration, is now worth $251 billion (₹20.89 lakh crores). Majority of his wealth comes from these two companies, around two-thirds from Tesla. Elon Musk currently owns a 23% stake in Tesla.

Musk also purchased Twitter for $44 billion in October 2022 and renamed it to X. He plans to turn this X platform into an “everything app” or site, offering range of services from banking to online dating. Musk also founded xAI in March 2023, as his previously cofounded AI company OpenAI got backed by Microsoft. Musk’s fortune reached an astounding $320 billion in November 2021, the peak that was never touched again by himself or anyone.


#2 Bernard Arnault & family – LVMH

The tycoon of France – Bernard Arnault is the second richest person in the world with a net worth of $201 billion (₹16.72 Lakh Crores). Bernard is the CEO and chairman at Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton (LVMH), the world’s largest luxury goods company. LVMH is a giant of fashion industry owning 70 fashion and cosmetic brands.

Arnault together with his family – his five children handle various sectors within the behemoth LVMH. In January 2023, he appointed his daughter Delphine to lead Dior, the group’s second-largest brand. Recently in January 2024, his 29-yr-old son Frederic Arnault became the CEO of LVMH watches unit.

Despite losing $10 billion in 2023, Bernard is still the second richest in the world.


#3 Jeff Bezos – Amazon

The founder of e-commerce giant Amazon – Jeff Bezos becomes the third richest person in the world in 2024. Possessing a $174.2 billion net worth, Jeff Bezos also founded Blue Origin, a private space exploration company, which also provides space-tour. Blue Origin appeared in news in 2023, when it proposed its plan to do logistics in space.

Bezos gained $60.2 billion in 2023, and had given away Amazon shares worth $546 million in 2023, according to filings. Jeff Bezos owns 988 million shares of amazon which is about 9.56% of the firm’s shares.


#4 Larry Ellison – Oracle

The 79-yr-old cofounder of Oracle – Larry Ellison is the fourth richest person in the world. Having a fortune of $135.3 billion, Larry Ellison also ventured into investments, including a substantial stake in Tesla. Currently Larry Ellison is Oracle’s chairman and Chief Technology Officer. He was Oracle’s CEO from its start (1977) to 2014. Ellison has a 42% stake in Oracle and his net worth saw an increase of $28.3 billion in 2023.

Larry Ellison currently resides in Lanai, Hawaii, which he bought for $300 million in 2012 and made headlines.


#5 Mark Zuckerberg – Meta

Mark Zuckerberg, the originator of social media, cofounder and CEO of Meta Platforms becomes the fifth most-richest person in the world. Zuck has a net worth of $125.3 billion as of Jan 2, 2024 and he nearly doubled his wealth in 2023. Collectively, Meta owned products – Instagram, WhatsApp and Messenger have 3.96 billion monthly active people and Facebook as a standalone platform gets 3.05 billion monthly active users.

Zuckerberg owns 13% of Meta shares currently. In November, 2023, Zuckerberg and his wife Priscilla Chan plan to prevent, cure and manage all diseases by 2100. They had laid out plans in 2016 to invest $3 billion in ten years for this eradication of diseases.



#6 Bill Gates – Microsoft

With a net worth of $119.6 billion, Bill Gates, the cofounder of Microsoft takes the sixth place of world’s richest persons. The 67-yr-old businessman maintained the title of world’s richest person for a period 17 years from 1995 to 2017, excluding 2008, and 2010 to 2013. Gates and his ex-wife Melinda French Gates founded “Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation” through which the couple have donated nearly $39 billion so far since 1994. As of November 2023, Bill Gates holds a 1.38% stake in Microsoft, which amounts to 103 million shares.

#7 Warren Buffett – Berkshire Hathaway

Warren Buffett is the oldest richest person in the world. Currently at 93, Buffett has a fortune of $118.6 billion. He is widely recognized as the “Oracle of Omaha”, for his exceptional investment decisions that’s even taken forth by the industry. Buffett is the CEO of Berkshire Hathaway, an investment conglomerate enclosing numerous companies.

Warren Buffett is also a renowned philanthropist. He recently announced that he will donate 99% of his fortune after his death.

Larry Page, the cofounder of Google, has a net worth of $117.2 billion and is the eighth richest person in the world. Larry Page, born in 1973, is a tech whiz who, with his buddy Sergey, built the giant search engine Google. He started tinkering with computers young, and at Stanford, their “BackRub” project turned into the Google. Larry led Google for years, then stepped back to explore other cool ideas like flying cars and solving world problems.

Currently he serves as a member of the board of Alphabet, the parent company of Google. Larry Page holds 6% stake of Google shares. The other cofounder of Google – Sergey Brin was originally from Russia and settled later in United States. Brin initially held the position of technology president at Google. Currently, he is a board member of Alphabet and holds 6% of the business. The 50-yr-old currently resides in Los Altos, California. Sergey Brin is now worth $112.4 billion.
