Apple afresh kindled the craze for its upcoming iPhone 15 series, bringing on exciting new features and impressive designs on the smartphones.
Trendsetting a feature with almost each of its product launch, say like dynamic island in iPhone 14 Pro models or the cinematic mode in iPhone 13 series, is a cup of tea for Apple. And with this iPhone 15 series, the firm plans for adding more impressive experience with iPhones.
Here are all the new features coming to all iPhone 15 Pro & non-pro models.
Features of iPhone 15 Pro & Pro Max
A17 Chip
Apple starts from the performance itself, equipping a new A17 Bionic chipset for its new iPhone 15 Pro & Pro Max models. A17 Bionic chip is expected to deliver a better performance and lower power consumption with 35% improvement in power efficiency. Apple played cunningly by buying the entire first production run of TSMC’s new N3 process semiconductors, making it the foremost and only major smartphone maker to use a 3nm process in handsets as early as 2023, reports say.
Wifi-6E
iPhone 15 Pro & Pro Max models will be coming with Wi-Fi 6E technology support, which by the way new to iPhones. Wi-Fi 6E facilitates more bandwidth, faster connectivity and lower latency. This makes the 15 Pro models to possess enough bandwidth for augmented reality and virtual reality experiences without any clutter. It also supports for gigabit internet, means can transmit data up to 1GB per second.
Higher-Speed USB-C
A much-needed feature finally comes to Apple, thanks to EU. As European Union instigated all smartphone makers to include USB-C by 2024 for being eligible to market in the continent, Apple has no other way, but implementing it. iPhone 15 Pro models do equip thunderbolt 3 over USB-C, enabling fast data transfer and 4K display-out capabilities and USB-C lightning speeds for its non-Pro models. However, Apple executed it smartly by bringing a twist.
Apple limits the compatibility of USB-C port to MFI-certified (Made for iOS) cables, which means only those USB-C cables certified by Apple will work with iPhone 15. And the ordinary android USB-C cables will go vain on iPhone 15.
Titanium Frame
The Pro models of iPhone 15 will be covered by a titanium frame, unlike the metals in iPhone 14 Pros. Titanium frames are mainly preferred for its improved durability and more scratch-resistant without adding any extra weight to the device, and so are iPhone 15 Pros.
Thinner Bezels
Leaked Videos confirm that iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max will feature even thinner bezels around the display compared to the previous generation models. It will be exclusive only to Pro models and so iPhone 15 & 15 Plus will have normal bezels as its predecessor. The thinner bezels around the display, the iPhone 15 Pro models could have a similar appearance as the Apple Watch Series 7 and Series 8.
8GB RAM
According to reports, the much-awaited iPhone 15 Pro from the series will include 8GB of RAM. Apple will upgrade the capacity and specifications of RAM for the future iPhone 15 models, MacRumors mentions. iPhone 14 Pro variants feature 6GB of RAM, for comparison.
Solid-State buttons – Cancelled
Apple adopts solid-state buttons with haptic feedback for the power and volume controls for its upcoming iPhone 15 Pro models. Replacing the physical buttons, the solid-state buttons will provide interfaces, haptics feedback during interaction and supports pressure sensing, wherein different force could be matched with different operations and functions. For example, a light press will slowly tune up the volume and a strong force will shut down the volume immediately.
The power button too will be having the force-effect, maybe as an extra shortcut option. The solid-state buttons can improve protection against dust and water, as it doesn’t need a physical depressing mechanice.
** Apple had cancelled solid-state buttons in iPhone 15 Pro series as it encountered unspecified design issues during the production. However, iPhone 16 series might feature this solid-state buttons.
Unified Volume button
Further with buttons, Apple makes the volume button unified – no separate volume up and down buttons. With haptic feedbacks, the models by itself are expected to differentiate top and bottom buttons with a touch.
Mute button over switch
Apple makes this change for the first time in 16 years – gets rid of its iconic “mute switching” button by replacing it with haptic button. By applying minimal pressure on the button, your phone will be muted, with no need for switching the toggle.
Periscope Lens – 6X to 10X Optical Zoom
iPhone 15 Pro is expected to feature Sony’s periscope lens that allows for 10X optical zoom. With periscope lens, the light entering the camera will be reflected by an angled mirror towards camera’s sensor proffering for a better zoom without any blurriness. It’s already available in some of android phones including Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra, S22 ultra, Huawei P50 Pro, Xiaomi 12S Ultra and more.
