#1 Swayam – NPTEL

SWAYAM (Study Webs of Active-Learning for Young Aspiring Minds) is an Indian government Massive open online course (MOOC) platform providing educational opportunities for a vast number of university and college learners. The objective of this effort is to take the best quality teaching learning resources from India’s top engineering colleges to all students of the country.

NPTEL (National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning) is an initiative by the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) professors to enhance the quality of engineering education in India. It offers online courses and certification in various fields such as computer science, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, etc.

NPTEL is the official SWAYAM national coordinator for engineering. All NPTEL online certification courses are SWAYAM courses too, and they are available on the SWAYAM platform as well.

The courses are available on their website and are offered through an online portal. The courses are typically 4-, 8-, or 12-week long and cover topics relevant to students in all years of higher education along with basic core courses in sciences and humanities with exposure to relevant tools and technologies.

#2 Swayam Prabha

Swayam Prabha is an initiative of the Ministry of Human Resources Development of India that provides 34 high-quality educational channels through DTH in TVs and also via an app across India.

The channels cover entire syllabus of Class 1 to UG tutoring all essential topics for students. Differentiated as ‘higher education’ and ‘school education’ for college and school students respectively, Swayam Prabha facilitates multi-mode access to digital/online teaching for students in India via TV, app, and YouTube.

Swayam Prabha is Indian Govt’s free digital tuition-center for students.

The video contents have been developed in both Hindi and English languages and are superimposed with QR codes, which if scanned using DIKSHA mobile app will take the users to the same content in the app.

Tutoring videos in the platform are made by 13 government institutes or organizations including NCERT, CBSE, KVS, NIOS, and Rotary for school educative videos and NPTEL, IITs of India for higher educative (college) topics.

The website also addresses engineering field topics, economics, social science, humanities, basic and applied sciences.

It’s most useful for students who don’t have stable internet connection, as the videos are also telecasted on TV as per the schedules mentioned in the website. The Swayam Prabha DTH channels can be received by all DD Free Dish and Dish TV subscribers. Swayam Prabha is also available on Jio app.

#3 E-Yantra

e-Yantra is a robotics outreach program funded by the Ministry of Education of India, hosted at IIT Bombay. E-Yantra compliments higher education with a project-based learning, where it offers innovation challenges, and robotic competitions for college students in India. It also proffers initiatives to set up labs and farms in the college campus, assisted by government.

e-Yantra also hosts school-level robotic competition every year. School and college students can enroll for the competition and challenges, and exhibit their talents.

#4 Vidya Lakshmi

Students in India who seek education loans can head to “Vidya Lakshmi”, and register in the website to avail loans from multiple banks in India. Vidya Lakshmi portal has been developed under the guidance of Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Education and Indian Banks Association for providing a gateway for students to avail loans easily.

The process of applying for the loan involves three simple steps – registration in the website, filling up the details required for the loan and applying to multiple banks. Dozens of banks in India welcomes to grant loans to students via Vidya Lakshmi, including SBI, Canara Bank, Bank of India, PnB, UCO Bank, Axis, IoB and more.

Vidya Lakshmi also proffers scholarships for students through its “Vidyasaarathi” initiative. Over 10 lakh applicants have registered in Vidyasaarathi and it had offered 12,514 scholarships to the applicants, as of January 2022.
