India’s First E-Scooter that doesn’t come with Battery & Requires No Charging

Leading electric vehicle manufacturers such as Tesla, Audi, Tata, Hyundai, and GM have dominated the four-wheeler market for a decade. Yet, none have achieved the breakthrough of operation without traditional charging. Surprisingly, an innovative Indian company now claims its new electric bike offers this groundbreaking capability.

Recently, Bengaluru-based electric mobility startup Bounce introduced its inaugural electric bike, the ‘Bounce Infinity E1.’ This innovative e-bike stands apart from other conventional electric vehicles, boasting unique features that eliminate the need for traditional battery charging or even owning a battery outright.

How Bounce Battery Swapping Revolutionizes EV Charging

While the Bounce Infinity E1 electric scooter incorporates a battery, its unique operational model centers around a “swappable battery” system, offering a revolutionary approach to powering your ride.

The Bounce Infinity E1 introduces a pioneering “battery as a service” model. This innovative system enables users to quickly exchange a depleted battery for a fully charged one at any point within Bounce’s extensive battery swapping network. This key feature costs only Rs. 35 per exchange, making it significantly faster than waiting at a typical EV charging station. This method drastically reduces the electric scooter’s running costs, potentially by up to 40% compared to traditional gasoline scooters. Furthermore, each battery swap takes less than two minutes, enhancing the convenience and reliability of this electric vehicle.

Introducing the Bounce Infinity E1 Electric Scooter

Bounce, the innovative startup, reports an extensive battery-swapping station network with nearly 200 locations in major Indian cities such as Delhi-NCR and Bengaluru. This robust infrastructure has facilitated over 500,000 battery swaps, contributing to over 2 crore electric vehicle kilometers traveled.

Vivekananda Hallekere, Bounce CEO, stated, “Bounce plans to invest over USD 100 million in the next 12 months, allocated towards manufacturing electric scooters and significantly expanding our battery swapping infrastructure. We are actively establishing a broad battery-swapping network through key partnerships, designed to support both our retail customers and our flourishing ride-sharing operations. Our ultimate goal is to create the world’s largest and most densely distributed battery swapping platform, accelerating India’s shift towards clean mobility, and ensuring customers can access a swapping facility within a one-kilometer radius.”

Through strategic alliances with prominent brands such as Nobroker, Park+, Readyassist, Helloworld, Kitchens@, and Goodbox, Bounce is fortifying its electric bike ecosystem nationwide. These collaborations enable the installation of over 3,500 battery swapping stations across 10 Indian cities, making EV ownership more convenient.

This intelligent battery swapping network will be conveniently accessible at various locations, including residential societies, major parking areas, shopping malls, and corporate offices. Customers can easily locate the nearest swapping station using their Bounce mobile application.

A significant advantage of Bounce’s “battery as a service” model is the opportunity for anyone to become a battery swapping partner, similar to how OYO, OLA cabs, or Tea-time operate. Individuals, even without a traditional store or shop, can host a swapping space in their homes and earn a fixed return on their investment through this collaboration. Bounce dubs this initiative ‘Bounce Power,’ designed to “empower the common man to be part of this transition to clean energy,” as stated by the CEO.
