Lenskart, an Indian multinational eyewear company based in Gurugram, has launched its first smart eyewear, the “Phonic” in India. These glasses combine traditional eyewear with smart features, aiming to provide an affordable and convenient experience.
Adapting to the evolving technology, Lenskart has taken a bold step of going “Smart” with its glasses for Indian customers. The new smart glasses provide features like voice assistants and is one of the most affordable smart-glass ever made. The Phonic smart glasses allow users to take calls, listen to music, and interact with voice assistants without needing separate headphones.
The Phonic smart glasses are available in two designs: Navigator and Hustlr, both of which are full-rim wayfarer styles. They come in two color options, Matte Black and Shiny Blue. The frames are designed to be lightweight, making them comfortable for all-day use. Lenskart also offers customization options, allowing buyers to add bifocal or progressive prescription lenses or sunglasses. They are compatible with both concave and convex lenses, with power ranging from -8D to +6D. Buyers can choose from a variety of lens types, including anti-glare, blue screen, and Owndays shatterproof lenses, though the price may vary based on the lens chosen.
Features & Price
The smart glasses have built-in Bluetooth audio, with speakers placed at the temples. This allows users to listen to music and take calls. They also feature voice assistant integration, enabling users to send messages, set reminders, and control music playback using voice commands on both Android and iOS devices. The glasses have a single physical button located at the bottom of one of the temples, which allows users to switch between functions. Lenskart claims the Phonic smart glasses can minimize distractions while driving. The glasses offer a playtime of up to seven hours and come with a proprietary charging cable.
Phonic glasses are just ‘smart’ and should not be mistaken for ‘augmented-reality’ technology. It means that the glass can’t display notifications or messages on the glass like Meta’s Rayban glasses do, but only works with voice assistants.
The Lenskart Phonic smart glasses are priced at Rs. 4,000, although the company website lists the MRP as Rs. 7,000. They are available for purchase on the Lenskart website and in retail stores across India. Lenskart emphasizes that the Phonic smart glasses are designed to offer a connected experience while being affordable. The glasses aim to provide hands-free convenience for professionals, commuters, and drivers.
