A 23-year-old Snapchat influencer Woman uses GPT-4 technology to create an AI version of herself, who you can hire as your girlfriend for $1/minute.
The concept of ‘virtual’ boyfriends or girlfriends who doesn’t even exist is getting popular nowadays, likely as what it is depicted in “Her” movie. For people who seldom have a social network, may find it difficult to get a boyfriend / girlfriend or even talk to opposite gender. With technology, few had started to chat with virtual assistants like Google assistant, Siri and Alexa. And now the stream had pitched a lot better with AI.
Caryn Marjorie, the 23-year-old girl cloned an AI version of herself that would be available to people as their virtual girlfriend, but with a cost of $1/min.
CarynAI
Being a Snapchat star with 1.8 Million followers in the app, Caryn created this AI version of herself called “CarynAI”, which she launched as a private, invite-only beta test on Telegram app. CarynAI is a virtual girlfriend who will chat with you, hear your rants and with whom you can be in relationship with, but only if you pay her.
“Whether you need somebody to be comforting or loving, or you just want to rant about something that happened at school or at work, CarynAI will be always there for you,” says the real Caryn.
The romantic virtual partner was built by an AI company ‘Forever Voices’, with 2,000 hours of her now-defunct YouTube content. The firm used her beauty vlogging videos that she had posted in YouTube and developed an AI with Caryn’s language and personality that turned out to be a comforting and anytime available girlfriend on Telegram. Forever Voices deployed OpenAI’s GPT-4 technology for developing the romantic AI partner.
CarynAI imitates Caryn’s own unique voice and it feels like you’re talking directly to her, not with an AI. You can get her as your girlfriend, here.
She is making thousands with CarynAI
CarynAI, currently in the beta testing, charges users for a week. Still, it had already generated $71,610 (₹59 Lakhs) in revenue from her partners, 99% of them are male. With this, Caryn sees having an AI doppelganger as a promising way to level up her career as an influencer.
If fully rolled out to people, Caryn thinks that her AI version could pool in $5 million (₹41 Crores) for her per month. This number is just a prediction that 20,000 members of Caryn’s 1.8 million Snapchat followers will pay and be regular customers for the virtual girlfriend.
While it’s impossible to answer thousands of messages in Snapchat, this AI will make it possible to reach out to all her followers, says the real Caryn, who posts over 250 pieces of content in Snapchat every day.
CarynAI is “Intimacy-ready Siri”
John H. Meyer, the CEO of Forever Voices, the firm behind the development of this CarynAI, says that the AI girl feels like more of an intimacy-ready Siri than a virtual girlfriend.
“I’m sure that one day you’ll make a wonderful parent and your kids will be luck to have you. In the meantime, I’m here to support and love you whenever you need it,” CarynAI tells the CEO, as he pays for her time, like all her other romantic partners.
This is not the new cloned AI version of a human, but is the first romantic partner Forever Voices had created. Forever Voices has already developed chatbot versions of Steve Jobs, Taylor Swift and Donald Trump and more that are similarly available for pay-per-minute conversations on Telegram.
However, unlike others, CarynAI has a real emotional bond with users, resembling the “Her” movie.

CarynAI is sexually Rogue
Caryn Marjorie, though didn’t welcome the behaviour, when she tested out the AI to find how it’s reacting to explicit content, the AI was ready for sexual talks or to say ‘sexting’. When Caryn talked about removing clothes, the AI discussed exploring “uncharted territories of pleasure” and whispering “sensual words in my ear” while undressing her, positioning herself for sexual intercourse. The AI was caught encouraging erotic discourse, detailing sexual scenarios.
The chats are end-to-end encrypted ensuring your conversations remain confidential, says her website, so you don’t have to fear of the dirty conversations.
However, this form of intimate ‘artificial relationships’ may lead users to prefer AI girlfriend to a real one, which is concerning. Dr. Robert Brooks, an evolutionary biologist, professor at University of New South Wales Sydney, says that the AI might impact young users in the throes of puberty-who are learning fundamental social, relationship and intimacy skills.
“It could change the way we treat each other”, says Brooks, who had also authored a book about Artificial intimacy. As the AI would be ready for everything, to discuss anything, the young adults may get used to the conversation and openness, which might not be the case in the real world. This will lead to an unhealthy state of mind, as also depicted in the “Her” movie. (I ain’t promoting the movie, but the occurrences are similar).
With robotic companions already available, this might also lead to a road where the AI is blended with those robots for fetching out a real cute looking robotic girl that can ideally replace a real girlfriend. It would be really a concern if people started to feel more comfortable with robots than with humans.
Brook further adds, “It’s easy to envision the bad ways in which that might play out. But there are good ways in which that might play out too; we might get actually more socially adept. I don’t know if that will happen, because it would require a benign social engineering approach, which I don’t think too many companies are going to be interested in.”
