World’s first Fully Solar Powered Vehicle that looks like Batman’s Car

The seed of First Solar powered cars was sown back on 1955, by a GM employee William. G. Cobb who designed and displayed a tiny 15-inch vehicle that runs on solar energy. The craze and research for solar-powered cars has a constant steep from then, and 2021 has some interesting outcomes of it.

Solar-powered cars have been facing obstacles since its emergence and people aren’t adhered to it, as they are to ordinary vehicles. Reasons could be what if sun sets or gets covered by clouds or if it rains? Would the journey be disturbed in such cases? Though it says 100%, backup would always be following! That’s how this car by ‘Aptera Motors’, put its uniqueness of manufacturing a solar-car for people.

Aptera – First 100% Solar Electric Vehicle

Aptera Motors, a startup in California is about to bring world’s first ever mass-produced solar car this year. It’s a three wheeled, ultra-aerodynamic electric vehicle that houses under 34 square feet of solar cells. The car is so efficient in extracting solar in such a way that, it proffers 65 km/day of free ride – meaning just from solar energy, it runs 40 miles.

The energy consumption of the 3-wheeler in 1 day is as same as that of desktop PC does in 20 minutes. That efficient it is!

The obstacles like mentioned earlier, cloud-blocks / rain / moody climate conditions, if faced, the car could be charged electrically and it runs 1600 km for a single charge. That’s more than enough, until the sky shows off.

Design Features & Significance

The three wheeled car acts profound in its appearance & efficiency, concentrated from top to wheels to eliminate as much waste as possible. Aptera’s body swoops like a dolphin’s belly, specially sketched to reduce the drag and add a smooth flow of air against the motion of the vehicle. Curved at the nose, it widens along the windshield and tapered toward the trunk – like a small, speedy aircraft.

Rolling resistance, which the startup entails, means that the travel will be a sheeny-shiny one with low friction, as it has just three wheels, eliminating a touch point where energy can be lost.

Aptera’s unique diamond shaped solar panels maximize the energy you get from the sun. This gives fully equipped vehicles 700 Watts of continuous charging power — whether you’re driving or parked.

Where you can move around the town for free on a sunny day, tactless of how much fuel / charge the car have, Aptera could withstand all weather, ranging from -20 to 125 degrees Fahrenheit, been developed to handle well in the harshest conditions. With all-wheel drive and vectorized torque control, snow, ice, sand and gravel are no problem.

Also, its frame built with ultra-light carbon composites and fiberglass is as light than any other car, making its weight 65% less than that of other EVs. Its arched shape mimics the physics of an eggshell — that protects you and your loved ones with a safety cell that’s seven times stronger than steel.

As vehicles of now leads to carbon footprints in atmosphere, efficient transportation indeed emphasizes managing the Earth’s natural resources for the sake of future generations. Each Aptera owner can reduce their carbon footprint by over 14,000 pounds of CO2 per year. They are making it easier for you to do your part.

Aptera has already seen 7,500 pre-orders at a cost of $25,900 / car.

Would you be having one in future? Because, I would consider having it!
